Artistes of the Golden Age of Music Hall

1912 In America

This is a collection of photographs that we managed to obtain by auction.

They depict Lillian and daughter Lily enjoying a day at the seaside.

In December 2010, quite by chance Terri came across the name Zanetto as part of a lot for sale by auction. She, Karen and I decided we'd bid for it, Karen went to the auction ... and after a lot of suspense ... bingo! It was ours!

Among the fabulous documents and photos were some negatives that must have been taken by Pip, and here are some showing his wife Lilian and their daughter Lily (scans courtesy of Karen's husband Brian).

They were taken in August or September 1912, because we have the passenger list showing mother and daughter sailing from Southampton on July 31st that year on SS Oceanic (see "The Titanic & other Liners"). They arrived in New York on August 6th.

The Royal Zanettos were performing in Newport, Brooklyn and Coney Island during that period, and the beach appears to be Newport, Rhode Island.

The year 1912 is also confirmed by this extract taken from Lily's notes about her childhood written in 1985 (courtesy of Lily's son Cyril).
